About the Course
“The main purpose of investigations and examinations following undesired HSE incidents is to identify learning points that can contribute to learning and prevent recurrence” (SfS recommendation 029N/2020).
Maersk Training has developed this course based on best practice 029N/2020 from SfS (Cooperation for Safety). The course supports general regulatory requirements, including the Management Regulations §20.
The course is practice‑oriented and provides a foundation for organizations to plan and conduct internal accident investigations in a systematic and effective manner.
After completing the course, participants will have the competence to use the MTO (Man–Technology–Organization) method as a tool to conduct or participate in investigations and examinations following an undesired incident.
The MTO method is an analytical tool that is taught and applied throughout the course. The MTO methodology is the most widely used within the Norwegian petroleum industry. Authorities also apply this method in their investigations following industrial accidents.
Upon Completion of the Course
After the course, participants will have the competence to use the MTO model as a tool to conduct or participate in their own investigations and examinations following an incident. Participants will also have an understanding of why investigations are carried out and why the MTO methodology is used.
