Target group
Everyone who needs an update to their Basic Safety Training for Seafarers course according to the ammended IMO model course. The new content added to the course from 1.1.2026 concerns prevention and response to violence and harassment onboard, and will be a natural part of the course Basic Safety Training for Seafarers from that date.
Content
The course is an e-learning and no attendance at a training centre is needed.
The course diploma will be mailed to the participant on completion of the e-learning.
Learning objectives
On completion of the course the participant shall be able to:
- What violence, harassment, bullying, sexual harassment and sexual assault mean and the continuum of harm
- Identify contributing factors and consequences of violence and harassment on victims, perpetrators, bystanders and stakeholders, and its effect on safety, health and wellbeing.
- Behaviors that promote a respectful culture onboard
- Signs of violence, bullying and harassment
- When and how to intervene, seek help and report violence and harassment
- How to support victims and foster recovery by understanding basic principles of trauma-informed response.

Assessment criteria
At the end of the e-learning course, the participant will conduct a theoretical test.
