Purpose and overview
Lithium-ion batteries power many items of equipment, from smartphones and laptops to electric vehicles and cargo. While offering many benefits, lithium-ion batteries can also pose significant hazards if handled improperly.
The Lithium-Ion Battery Safety on Ships e-learning course provides maritime professionals with the knowledge and skills to mitigate risks and ensure safe operations. This course focuses on the hazards and risks associated with lithium-ion batteries on board ships, enabling recognition of hazardous batteries at an early stage. Learners will be provided with an overview of the key safety measures for managing lithium batteries and industry best practices for loading, stowing, and charging electric vehicles (EVs).
Note: This e-Learning course is delivered by Maersk Training in collaboration with VIRSEC. This course is approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
Target audience:
This course is for ship crew, captains, safety officers, emergency response teams and shoreside managers interacting with lithium-ion batteries in the maritime environment.
