The G5 Offshore Crane Theory Module P‑3.1 provides participants with the fundamental knowledge required to meet the theoretical requirements for safe and efficient operation of offshore cranes. The training covers safety protocols, equipment handling, and industry standards related to offshore crane operations.
The course is designed to prepare operators for the practical aspects of crane operations as described in Module P‑4.1.
Key Competencies Acquired
Prerequisites
Participants must have successfully completed Module O‑1.1 or equivalent (Module 1 + 2.3), as well as Module P‑2.1 for G20 fixed cranes.
Who Is the Course Intended For?
This course is intended for offshore crane operators and personnel with responsibility for crane operations on offshore installations.
Assessment
A theoretical examination consisting of a minimum of 50 questions.
A score of 80% correct answers is required to pass.
Time allowed: 2 hours.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the examination, participants receive a G5 Offshore Crane Theory Certificate, in accordance with the requirements of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway and the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

Understanding the duties of operators and supervisors in monitoring and performing safe lifting operations.
Laws, Regulations, and Standards
Review of relevant legislation, user manuals, and regulatory standards for offshore crane use.
Offshore Crane Design and Operation
Exploration of mechanical principles, crane construction, and operational requirements.
Emergency Operations and Safety Systems
Training in emergency procedures, safety systems, and response to potential incidents during crane operations.
Load Capacity and Limitations
Instruction in load assessment, handling of dynamic loads, and interpretation of load charts and indicators.
Wire Ropes and Equipment Maintenance
Procedures for maintenance, inspection, and safety checks of wire ropes, hooks, blocks, and sheaves.
