Lifeboat Coxswain Basic Course - Conventional Lifeboat (Norwegian)

Target Group

Personnel who are to serve as lifeboat operators on conventional lifeboats.

Course Content

The course covers the competencies required to command a lifeboat during an аварий or incident where evacuation is required. This includes the entire rescue phase, from boarding and launching the lifeboat, to clearing the installation and remaining at sea until recovery.

The course complies with the requirements set by Offshore Norge and STCW Table A‑VI/2‑1.

• Introduction
• Regulations and legislation
• Technical description and equipment on board the lifeboat
• Emergency organisation / alarm procedures / command structure / stress management
• Duties and responsibilities of the lifeboat operator and crew
• Helicopter rescue
• Relevant first aid

Upon Completion of the Course

Upon completion of the course, participants shall be able to:

• Describe the organisation of emergency preparedness on offshore installations and the purpose of such organisation
• Prepare the lifeboat for evacuation
• Organise and lead muster and boarding
• Communicate via radio, internally in the lifeboat and with emergency management
• Launch the lifeboat from the installation and navigate it to a safe zone
• Manoeuvre and operate the lifeboat and facilitate stay on board at sea
• Handle emergency systems and equipment adapted to different conditions on board the lifeboat
• Describe launch and safe evacuation using alternative evacuation methods, such as liferafts and escape chutes

Prerequisites

• Basic Safety and Emergency Preparedness Course (GSK)
• VHF/SRC certificate

Assessment Criteria

Participants are assessed throughout all practical training. If a participant does not pass the practical training, a justification will be provided.

After completing the training, participants must pass a theoretical test. Participants who do not meet the competence requirements will not be certified.

Upon successful completion of the course and examination, a Lifeboat Operator Certificate may be issued by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

Course Duration

• Classroom and practical training: 4 days
• E‑learning and practical training: E‑learning + 3 days

Course Validity

The course certificate is valid for 2 years.

Course Location

The course is offered at our locations in Stavanger, Bergen, Haugesund, Kristiansund, and Grimstad.

Preferred date and location can be selected from the course list.

Payment is made upon registration or on arrival.

Attendance

All courses normally start at 10:00 on the first course day, unless otherwise stated in the course confirmation.
On subsequent days, attendance is at 08:30.

Clothing

All participants must bring wool underwear or non‑synthetic base layers.
