Target Group

Personnel serving as lifeboat operators on free‑fall lifeboats.

Course Content

The course covers the key competencies required to command a lifeboat during an аварій or incident where evacuation is necessary. This includes the complete rescue phase, from boarding and launch, to clearing the installation and remaining at sea until recovery.

• Introduction
• Regulations and legislation
• Technical description and equipment on board the lifeboat
• Emergency organisation / alarm procedures / command structure / stress management
• Duties and responsibilities of the lifeboat operator and crew
• Helicopter rescue
• Relevant first aid
• Practical and theoretical assessment

Upon Completion of the Course

Upon completion of the course, participants shall be able to:

• Prepare the lifeboat for evacuation
• Organise and lead boarding
• Launch the lifeboat
• Care for passengers and facilitate safe stay on board after evacuation
• Establish and maintain communication with rescue units

Prerequisites

• Basic Safety and Emergency Preparedness Course (GSK)
• Lifeboat Operator – Free‑Fall Lifeboat basic course or
  MOB Boat and Survival Craft in accordance with STCW Table A‑VI/2‑1

Personnel who have not served in an emergency response role and have not completed emergency response training or equivalent education within the last 5 years must complete a new basic course.

Assessment Criteria

Participants are assessed throughout all practical training. If a participant fails the practical training, a justification will be provided.

Following completion of the training, participants must pass a theoretical test. Participants who do not meet the required competence standards will not be certified.

The course certificate is valid for 2 years.

The course is offered at our locations in Stavanger, Bergen, Haugesund, Kristiansund, and Grimstad.

Preferred date and location can be selected from the course list.

Attendance

All courses normally start at 10:00 on the first course day, unless otherwise stated in the course confirmation.

Clothing

All participants must bring wool underwear or non‑synthetic base layers.
