As a result of the restrictions associated with the covid-19 pandemic, it has been particularly challenging for several certificate holders to complete the necessary update courses in order to renew their certificates. The Norwegian Maritime Directorate has therefore decided that seafarers who are to renew their Norwegian competence and skills certificates, including safety training for fishermen, can do this by completing the theoretical part of the required update courses as e-learning.
This is intended as an emergency solution and we still recommend anyone who can extend their certificates in the ordinary way to do so. The validity of the course certificates is given for up to 30 months. Before the new course certificate has expired, the person in question must take a complete, full-fledged course.
